Adam Loses 65 Pounds within Months

Adam happens to be one of the hardest working individuals I’ve ever had the fortunate opportunity to personal train. His results are nothing short of staggering.

Adam ditched any excuse to fully commit himself to accomplishing his goal!

He trains at both 5:45 am (before his children and wife awake) at the studio, and again after a long day at the office (sometimes in his neighborhood, others while running Myles Standish Monument hill with all 3 of his children in tow).

A man who is a bit of a foodie and wine enthusiast (such as myself), he stuck to his caloric needs as comfortably as could, and reaped the rewards of his consistency.

But this is the mark of the man Adam is.

He’s consistent in life.

Adam engages fully into all elements and passions: family, career, fun, past-times and fitness.

And he has absolutely inspired me to train not only smarter but harder.

He’s simply an inspiring individual to be around and listen to.

I am very proud to have gained Adam as a friend over the course of the last 6 months working together.

We’ve hiked Mount Washington together, competed in Vermont at the World Championship Spartan Ultra/Beast, played at the beach with family and are preparing to run a marathon together (Adam’s first).

If I could fill my hours with the ideal trainees, they would all be reflective of Adam’s dedication and intensity. Much like another Adam who trains at our studio when he’s home from Florida.

Something in a name perhaps, but none the less, intrinsic, I’m a fortunate person to have mornings begin with the motivation and good-heartedness that Adam brings to his sessions.

Nothing like waking up to laughter and intensity each morning before the sun rises.

ADAM’s WORDS (testimonial):

When I was finally ready to get off the couch I am fortunate that I found Belléy Fitness.

In High School and College I was very active with many organized sport teams.  However, like many former high school and college athletes, I was very unsuccessful at maintaining any sort of regular diet and exercise program in the years following organized sports and I had fallen into some unhealthy habits.

As a father of three young kids and a business owner, I convinced myself that I just did not have the time to take care of myself.  I didn’t even notice, or was willing to admit to myself, that my weight was spiraling out of control.  When I could no longer squeeze into any of my cloths and was again forced to buy the next round of bigger cloths, I knew it was finally time to make a real change.

I decided to commit to living a healthier lifestyle and to start exercising again.  I called Rob to learn about semi-private classes.  I’ll admit that I was initially concerned about the added cost of the semi-private training.  Like most people in the world, I was currently paying for a monthly gym pass that I never went to and finally admitted to myself that I could not do this on my own.

Energetic, encouraging, creative, and professional are the words that immediately come to mind to describe Rob as a trainer. His encouragement took on various forms, such as his always enthusiastic greetings, the genuine interest he showed in me as a person, and most importantly, the way in which he would guide me through his well-designed workouts.

In addition to encouraging me while in the studio, Rob helped me design a healthy diet and a workout routine at home.  He pushed me far beyond where I thought I could be at 36 years old and I am by far in the best shape of my life!   In less than 7 months I have lost a total of 65 pound and have completed numerous 5K’s, one sprint triathlon, one half marathon, two mud runs, the hellish 14 mile Spartan Beast in Vermont, and I will be running in my first full Marathon with Rob in a few weeks.

PS.  In regards to my initial concerns about the added expense, I am spending far more money on my new wardrobe as shrunk from 258 pounds down to 193 pounds.  The money that I spend on my Semi-Private Training is the best investment that I have ever made in myself!

Life Lessons.. posted on Facebook 09-29-2011

Just because you’ve made the club, doesn’t entitle you to belong to it. Hard work, consistency, leadership, courage and appreciation are a few reasons to keep you here. We are all interchangeable at any given moment.

Life Lessons brought to you by the letter “L”

  1. It’s okay to be one person’s hero and another person’s villain
  2. You CAN NOT save anyone!
  3. You control your choices
  4. It’s not their fault. It’s your fault. Because you let them hold yourself down.
  5. Some things are out of your control. Completely. So stop trying to figure out how to control them.
  6. Invest emotionally in those things you have a say in… Red Sox fans… don’t take this too much to heart. You can’t win the game. And you never actually lost the game. Those men did. Cheer up J
  7. Gravity always wins.  Always.
  8. If something seems too easy. It’s because you’ve done it wrong, or haven’t calculated all the possibilities or risks.
  9. There’s no such thing as “EASY MONEY”
  10. There are such things as “Where’s my money bitch?!” “You have until 2 o’clock” and “So help me God…”
  11. If you’re out of shape. It’s because you did it to yourself. No one else.
  12. If you’re feeling uncomfortable in a room, like everyone is looking at you, it’s because someone in that room knows something about you that you wish they didn’t. Just saying. For good or bad.
  13. This number is commonly unlucky. Remember it.
  14. Like the proverbial tree, if something isn’t tweeted, did it actually happen? You can bank on it.
  15. When they say, “Dance like no one is watching” guess what, EVERYONE is watching… so be talented at it. Been to enough clubs over the years to know, that you know, who the good dancers out of 1,000 people are and who are not.
  16. If you can mentor someone, do it!
  17. If you believe that for any moment you are not a role model, you’re wrong. We are all each other’s role models. That’s why we are a society. We share sociological and psychology behaviors. We are catalysts for one another.  Energy breeds energy. Negative or Positive.
  18. Text message spelling and word automation is so much better with a $200 smart phone than a $2,000 word processing program on a notebook/PC. Funny huh?
  19. Mangoes are brilliant. And they know it.
  20. The 1970’s destroys the millennium. For a soul’s fulfillment. Let’s recreate the best of the 70’s!
  21. Less is usually more.
  22. Someone always gets hurt 😉 And the ones who are not ever really feel it. Sorry. It’s kind of true.
  23. There is no such thing as revenge. There’s stupid layered upon stupid.
  24. Hating is useless. You can pull off memories to elicit a surge or drive but outside of that moment hating is completely useless.
  25. The world is not ending. People are using it as an excuse to blow off responsibility. Don’t be that person.
  26. Reality TV is pointless. Fuck watching someone’s life. LIVE YOUR OWN.  You’ll be much happier.
  27. If someone loves you. Love them back.
  28. If you ever wonder why people are talking about you, guess what, it’s because they have nothing better to do. You finally made it. You my friend are important. So it’s your victory. Congratulations J Welcome to the world. You’ve landed.
  29. If you can make someone smile. Do it. It will bring them more happiness then you can imagine.
  30. Be selfless once per day. Completely selfless. Anonymously.
  31. The universe is reciprocal so get ready 😉
  32. You are the direct reflection of your 5 closest people. Choose wisely.
  33. John Lennon is right,
“All we are saying is give peace a chance.”
    “All you need is love.”
“As usual, there is a great woman behind every idiot.”
”A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.”
”Everybody loves you when you’re six foot in the ground.”
”Everything is clearer when you’re in love.”
”I believe in everything until it’s disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it’s in your mind. Who’s to say that dreams and nightmares aren’t as real as the here and now?”
”If being an egomaniac means I believe in what I do and in my art or music, then in that respect you can call me that… I believe in what I do, and I’ll say it.”
“If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there’d be peace.”
  34. 14 years ago on this day, September 29, 1996 I barely kept my right eyeball, almost broke my sternum, pushed my head out the windshield, and bled everywhere in a horrific car accident all because I was doing too much, too often, trying to accomplish everything at once, at 17. Take it easy. Revel in the moments. Learn to rest. But don’t be fucking lazy. Set lofty goals, and provide a realistic time-frame to accomplish them. I crashed to Metallica’s “King Nothing”… ironic huh?
  35. And lastly, two more great John Lennon quotes:
“I’m not claiming divinity. I’ve never claimed purity of soul. I’ve never claimed to have the answers to life. I only put out songs and answer questions as honestly as I can… But I still believe in peace, love and understanding.”“I’m not going to change the way I look or the way I feel to conform to anything. I’ve always been a freak. So I’ve been a freak all my life and I have to live with that, you know. I’m one of those people.”

Fat Loss 101.a

Fat Loss 101.a

Recap the last post:

Step 1: Either you A) decide to lose body fat, or, B) decide not to lose body fat.

Step 2: Set time aside for 10 workouts a week, lasting 30-45 minutes each.

Step 3: Dax Moy’s elimination diet. Quality of your food will decrease your body’s fat.

Step 4: Accept patience.

Step 5: You did this to you and now you need to undo this to yourself.

Today:

Two sample plans of a day in the life.

The first plan one of my own from an actual day of eating.

The second plan one for a female looking to also lose body fat.

Of course these are just rough outlines, and there are other things included throughout the day not listed but these will undoubtedly give you an idea.

My own (Male Plan)

Female Plan

*I could have added a few more grams of food for the my own (the male) plan on those days but I had taking in too many the days before and was attempting to regulate my calories for the entire week.

Good luck with these till the next post!

Live the dream,

Bobby Belley

Fat Loss 101

So you want to lose fat, but, and a very large but here, you’re confused by all the infomercials, articles and jargon circulating around the media streams. Well, buyer beware, it’s actually a lot easier than you think.

First off, you have to accept one of two things. Stay with me kitty cat.

Step 1:

Either you A) decide to lose body fat, or, B) decide not to lose body fat.

It’s one or the other and honestly you have to give either or a honest effort to succeed either way.

It is mind-boggling how many individuals choose to GAIN body fat. It actually takes some work, despite what you’d believe.

Step 2:

This is assuming you’ve chosen A.

You need to figure out when you’re going to work out and how many times per week.

This is more important than how at the moment.

Here’s your blueprint though: set time aside for 10 workouts a week. Each workout lasting 30-45 minutes. This will allow for warming-up, soft tissue work, the actual workout and a cool-down.

Step 3:

Hold your breath. Get ready for it. I’m not going to apologize for this one. You need to EAT correctly.

“Ah f*#^ I knew there was a catch!”

Yeah, it takes proper eating. It blows but it’s my life, it’s what I do.

Now I’m not gonna tell you to eat such amount of calories per day or anything like that. Well maybe I am but this isn’t anything you can’t handle.

I’m gonna suggest you follow Dax Moy’s elimination diet. It works. And that’s all that really matters.

It’ the quality of your food that will eventually decrease your body’s fat.

Step 4:

Patience kids. Patience.

If you have no patience you better develop stat!

For myself, after a ridiculous one or two day binge, it takes my physique 3-4 days to recover/return to its normal appearance complemented with 100% adherence to caloric counting and more.

That includes absolutely no alcohol with that binge by the way. Just the wrong foods required for a lower body fat level.

Step 5:

Do not blame this article, myself, your spouse, your friends, your kids, your favorite football team, a vacation, your weekly grocer’s flyer, the wrong sale or anything else if you do not accomplish your goal.

It’s all about you.

You did this to you and now you need to undo this to yourself.

With that, you have a huge leg up till the next post!

You know the choice to make.

You know how often you need to workout.

You know what Google to find what you need to eat.

You know the mindset you need to adopt to be successful.

You know who to blame if these first 4 steps go wrong in way possible.

Keep living the dream 😉

Boston ranks 5th Fittest City in Men’s Fitness magazine

Men’s Fitness laid out it’s yearly Fittest and Fattest Cities in America segment in the recent March 2012 issue.

And Beantown just peaked it’s way into the top 5  in the 5th position behind (in numerical order) Portland (OR), San Francisco, Albuquerque, and Oakland.
FUN FACT: And for those sports rivalry junkies NY came in at 21: Go Sox Nation! 😉

The main blip provided about Bostonians is that the city boasts (via Bundle) that our beloved city spends 92% less than the national average on fast food. That’s insane! And I love it!!

As in some of of our other posts you should KNOW BY NOW just how gross traditional fast food is overall as an industry. Not only for your health, fat loss and/or athletic goals, but it’s manufacturing and standards of what “food” is.

I think the three coolest stats given by Men’s Fitness highlight the Californication. In San Francisco 30.6% of residents eat at least 5 servings of veggies a day. In Oakland, 90% of residents are cigarette smoke-free. And L.A. boasts the city where people have the most amount of sex.

Of course you may still slip into the ocean or via a landslide so it’s a toss-up for relocation.

The March 2012 issue can be picked up at local newsstands throughout the country and Marshfield retail shops promoting fitness magazines.

VD is a Blessing for Everyone

So maybe your a masochist and watch every Kate Hudson movie you can find on Valentine’s Day when you’re single.

Perhaps you buy yourself a little B&J therapy, crying yourself through every ex-boyfriend/girlfriend record on your iPod playlist “HATE THIS FUCKER!”.

Or suppose you are jaded, still infuriated every time one of your friends LIKE’s the status of your ex’s latest Facebook quip (profile pic with random hott-looking person) just steamrolling your every last drop of self-help lifestyle.

Well, here’s what you can do this VD for yourself.

And of course, if it burns when you pee, then you have the bad VD. I can’t help you with that one 😉

One time, okay, one of the times I was in love with a girl it didn’t work out.

This is a time when most people tend to fall apart and gain about 10-15, maybe 30-40 pounds. I on the other hand- post dating failure – use these “blessings” as opportunities to turn it up a notch and crank my body to a new level =)

For me, it begins with a new playlist.

Once I’ve coordinated my list of rage-infused-angst songs, it comes down to exercise selection.

After the exercises have been carefully selected to accentuate the very body parts said ex loved the most we overhaul them and improve them.

Believe it or not, this type of focus is just what the doctor ordered.

In about 3-8 weeks the new developments are in place and you’ll feel amazing, not to mention “you look marvelous!”

And the best part, eventually, and this always happens, you will bump back into said ex again and they will notice your improvements, and most likely it will give a little pep in your step.

So, if you’re single this valentine’s day, no worries, use it as a catalyst to create the body of your ex’s fantasies.

If you’re in a relationship, remember that valentine’s day shouldn’t just be the 14th of February, but near as many days per week as possible.

VD can be a blessing for both single and committed individuals =)

128

There are 128 days left until SUMMER 2012.

What are you going to do before then to go from muffin top to body rock?

Basically you thousands of tiny decisions to make these next 4 months.

And if I were you, rather then feeling overwhelmed with a abundance of choices, I’d simplify them down to a strategic, New England Patriots philosophy of one game at a time, or, one choice at a time.

This will provide you with the greatest return on your investment.

By simply approaching one choice at a time, you’ll be able to micro-manage your options easier, as well as create a quicker success pattern towards your rock solid body come June 2012.

If I were you, here’s my cheat sheet plan to get you started!

1. Drink loads of water… well how about 3L or maybe 4L per day.

2. Train through strength training, 4x per week.

3. Sleep 7-8 hours per evening.

4. Eat 5-7 servings of veggies per day.

5. Cut out all enriched flours.

6. Cut gluten out of your diet.

7. Perform 4-6 small BURST sessions per week, as Belley Fitness clients do at home.

8. Lower cortisol production by only worrying or focusing on those things you have absolute control over.

9. Choose proteins such as chicken, white fish, eggs and grass-fed meat.

10. Drop the scale and (if you’re a female) find a pair of jeans you can’t fit in and use them as your measuring stick of success. If you’re a male find a nearly tight fitting t-shirt and try to fill out 😉

11. Believe in yourself

Practice these simple steps and you’ll notice a big difference in a little time frame to get your motivation peaking and your body fat dropping!!

Coaching and Mentors. Whose Yours?

Call me old-fashioned, but in order to respect a coach I have to believe in their track record. They must have walked the walk for me to trust their talk.

At Belley Fitness in Marshfield we operate on the same principles.

This year alone we are signed up for over a dozen events thus far.

As well, the average trainer in our fitness studio has logged an average of 19 days of self-training per month. But that’s not equivalent to total sessions we each train per month. If you count home based sessions we do on the side, plus our double sessions, sometimes triple sessions it’s roughly 30-35 sessions per month for each of us.

How often does your trainer workout?

Ripped Hand from Deadlifts

Tears Like This Mid-Workout Don't Hold Our Trainers Back From Our Sessions

When it comes to hiring business coaches I’ve only invested in some of the best in my industry. Brian Grasso, Chris McCombs, Pat Rigsby, Ryan Lee, Dax Moy (Canada, West Coast, East Coast, South, UK). These men have all led by example and are proven.

My personal trainer/strength coach/fitness professional is no other than Eric Cressey. Why? Because he’s one of the best in the world for helping people, such as myself, who have suffered from major injuries in the past and still strive to excel get the results they want. Plus Eric is legit! His facility rocks and his own training is proven. He’s a beast.

Besides, after all the clients at Belley Fitness’ programs are created the last thing I want to do is write/develop my own.

So when choosing anything in life, even your personal trainer, choose the one’s who do the dirty work and lead by example!

They are the ones who will show you, and tell you what it takes 😉

Help us help you live your dream Marshfield,

Rob
